E-Books are becoming more available with brands like Amazon Kindle creating a tablet specifically designed to read without pages. For a while now, libraries have been bringing hundreds of titles to the public with free access through online hubs. Serving this to the public has been wildly helpful with giving wonder and creativity to all ages. Patrons now have access to books without having to check the physical copy out. This allows users to read several books in a more portable vessel. Patrons can read from their phone, desktop, and laptop.

Why does this matter? Any plethora of reasons could be the case – most of all – ease of use. A casual, relaxed way to read on the go – saves space, lightweight, and you can adjust the settings. E-Books allow electronic readers to read out the content located on the pages for a more accessible experience. People with low visibility would be able to read on their own without having to sacrifice any of the plot. Having this is crucial to some patrons who would otherwise be deterred by reading the physical version. Reading is so special to so many people. The easier it can be made for users, the better.

Another large reason is portability. Being able to bring your reading wherever you have internet access would provide a much more compacted experience. You could work from one tab, email from another, and read from one more. South University notes, “From a PC to a tablet to your cell phone, you can access your books on the go and on your own schedule” (3). Saving space in your bookbag can really help with saving your strength as well. A 400 page book fitting in the palm of your hand has become standard for many users. A whole collection of titles within a few flicks of your thumb. Libraries lend all of these benefits for free with a library card – which can mean the world to a family with little money to spare.
